Rooftop Solar
Rooftop Solar Solutions
Make the most of your roof with the right layout, structure, panels and inverter — planned around shading and how you use the space.
What Is Rooftop Solar?
Rooftop solar places photovoltaic panels on the roof of a home or building to generate electricity where it is used. It makes productive use of space that is otherwise idle and, with the right structure, can coexist with water tanks, terrace use or industrial roofing.
Residential and Commercial Applications
Homes: flat RCC roofs and terraces, often with elevated structures — see residential solar. Businesses: office and showroom roofs, institutions and hotels — see commercial solar. Industry: metal sheds and large flat roofs — see industrial solar.
Roof Area, Shading and Orientation

- Shadow-free area: roughly 80–100 sq. ft. per kW as a planning guide
- Shading: nearby buildings, trees, tanks and parapets can cast shadows that reduce output — even partial shading matters
- Orientation and tilt: south-facing, suitably tilted panels generally perform best in UP
- Structure: roof strength, waterproofing and wind exposure determine the mounting design
- Access: safe access for installation, cleaning and maintenance
System Selection: Panels, Inverters, Batteries and Structures
Solar panels
Panel technology and wattage affect how much power you get from a given roof area. Higher-efficiency panels can help when space is limited.
Solar inverters
The inverter converts DC from the panels to AC for your home or business. String inverters suit most homes and many commercial roofs; hybrid inverters manage batteries as well as the grid; off-grid inverters work without the grid. Inverter sizing and placement are matched to the system design.
Solar batteries
Batteries store energy for night-time use or backup during outages in hybrid and off-grid systems. Capacity is chosen based on the loads you want to back up and for how long.
Mounting structures
Standard low-height, elevated or custom structures, selected for the roof type, wind load and how you want to use the space below.

Installation Process
- Site survey and shading analysis
- Layout and structure design
- Component selection and quotation
- Structure installation and waterproofing care
- Panel, inverter and cabling installation
- Testing, commissioning and handover
Maintenance Guidance
- Clean panels regularly with water and a soft brush, preferably early morning or evening
- Check for new shading, bird droppings or debris
- Keep an eye on inverter status lights and generation readings
- Book a periodic inspection of structure, cabling and earthing

In the northern hemisphere, south-facing panels tilted at an appropriate angle generally produce the most energy across the year. East–west layouts can also work where the roof shape requires it, with somewhat lower generation.
Yes. Elevated mounting structures raise the panels so the space below remains usable. The structure height and design depend on wind load and roof strength.
It depends on dust levels. In dusty or dry months, cleaning every couple of weeks may be useful; during monsoon, rain helps. Use soft water and a non-abrasive cloth or brush, and avoid cleaning hot panels at midday.
Not for a standard on-grid system. Batteries are needed for off-grid systems and for hybrid systems that provide backup during power cuts.
